David Jones explained the history of the gang mowers stating that it was some twelve years ago since they were last renovated.  He stressed the need for renovation to be carried out urgently due to the worn condition of the cylinders and bottom plates and the imminent start of the cricket season.  He explained the details of his verbal quotation to carry out the work, namely that his proposals were based on sourcing the components from a specialist supplier, having the cylinders ground by an engineering company and arranging for the disassembly and subsequent reassembly to be carried out by a local company.  He was of the opinion that this not only represented the most economic scheme but that it had the advantage of inherent flexibility to minimise and arrange outage times to suit the mowing requirements.

Repair of Gang Mowers

a A lively discussion thereupon ensued on the pros and cons of the various options available for renovating the gang mowers.  Angie Schwier and Jackie Yard were of the opinion (and asked for their view to be recorded) that since the matter was first raised in December they felt under ‘undue pressure’ to approve that the repair should be undertaken through arrangements made by Mr Jones, despite the absence of written quotations for comparison with others.  This, they felt, was ‘highly unprofessional’. It was proposed by Derek Duke, seconded by Sylvia Holdeman and carried unanimously that the verbal estimate of £950.00 plus VAT  from David Jones to renovate the gang mowers is accepted, conditional up on the following:

  • A quotation is received giving a break down of prices for the supply of parts, machining and labour.
  • VAT, where appropriate, is to be itemised separately.
  • The stated sum is not exceeded.
