Providing information and signposting for older people in Dorset

Objectives of the project

POPP logoTo help older people achieve an inter-dependent way of life in local communities based on mutual support, and practical help.

To increase the number of rewarded opportunities for older people in communities, and to enable them to contribute to community development.

To develop preventative approaches that promote health and well-being, and to ensure greater access to and choice of healthy living activities.

To achieve a partnership between older people, professionals and service providers that will secure well-being, choice and control in old age.

To promote links, networks and activities across generations in the local communities of Dorset.

To create networks of specialist, low-level and preventative services with quick and easy access that can also adapt to the changing needs of individuals and their communities.

To contribute to strong, sustainable local neighbourhoods that provide better opportunities for older people to stay in their local community as long as possible.

What sort of things can we help with?

Your local Wayfinder has a huge list of contacts and information to help you find out about most things you can think of. If they don't immediately have the information to hand then they will go and research the answer for you.

Some of the things they can help you with are details of local lunch clubs and social events, learning opportunities and outings.

You may need to know about public transport, how to get to the hospital or transport to visit your doctor.

Maybe you could do with some help around the house or in the garden, but don't know who to trust? Your Wayfinder can help you find the right person.

If you have a form or letter which is worrying you or you wonder if you may be entitled to some extra money each week then your Wayfinder can put you in touch with someone else who can help you.

The Wayfinder project is managed by Age Concerns in Bournemouth and Dorchester.

Part of the Dorset Partnership for Older People Programme.
