Senior Action Forum - Sturminster Newton & surrounding area.

Can You Help?

During 2008 a steering group of local older people have been meeting to lay the foundations for a new independent Senior Action Forum that would benefit residents over the age of 50 from Sturminster Newton and the surrounding parishes.  The steering group formed following an exploration meeting held in October 2007 at the Exchange.

Having completed the background work, the Forum is now is a position to hold its launch event and get to work!  However, mainly due to ill-health reasons, membership of the steering group has dropped to 2 older people supported by the Chairman of the North Dorset Older People’s Forum (NorDOP), representatives from the Partnership for Older People Project (POPP) and myself.  In order to remain an independent organisation the steering group must gain more local older people to launch and manage the Forum.  The commitment will be to attend a monthly meeting of the steering group, usually held at the Exchange community office and get involved with the organisation of the launch event, which will have the theme of '‘Life in Sturminster Newton, past and present'.

There are currently 16 Senior Forums across Dorset who are doing a terrific job in ensuring the VOICES of the over 50s are heard in order to influence service planning and provision.  The Sturminster Newton area is currently missing out on such opportunities.
